A parking guide to survive Downtown San Diego
"I feel pretty bad this hasn't been updated as soon as I've wanted to but I got a new trick I'm working on and more insider info coming.
Club hoping in downtown San Diego is easy because virtually every bar and restaurant that has a dance floor is within a ten block radius. The major downside is that all the parking within the area is scarce or expensive. The situation is worse for anyone that is not used to the maze of one way streets that downtown is notorious for. As with any outing a little planning will go a very very long way. I'll go over the basics that are easily overlooked and information unique to our downtown.
Car Pooling: When it's not too much of a hassle to have everyone meet at a friends house to park you can take fewer cars into downtown. If no one lives central to the entire group, you can still meet outside of downtown where there is plenty of parking to lessen the amount of cars you take into downtown. San Diego's mass transit does not have too many routes operating around the same time that bars close but you could take a trolley into downtown.
Starting the Night Early: Downtown is full of things to do before normal club time. There are enough resturants for any budget or taste. The downtown mall Horton Plaza is open till the late evening. Horton Plaza also has one of downtown's movie theatres an UA theatre. The Gaslamp has the other move theatre a Pacifc Theatres. The Museum of Contermporary Art San Diego (MCASD) is also in downtown.
Just a Few Blocks Down: Will update soon!
Parking Structure Guide: If you can find free parking downtown around the hours of 8:30pm to 10pm. Good luck finding those spots, with gas prices going up, i don't think you want to be killing your gas just looking for free parking going up and all over downtown. Here is a couple places that might ease your pain if you dont mind paying for parking. Horton Plaza - largest parking garage in San Diego, first 3 hours free by validation (by validated, i mean buy either buying something or looking around the mall for one of those parking meters that will validate your parking.) $6 per hour about $2 every 20 minutes, their open 24hrs. There are two parking structures on 7th between Broadway and E st. Weekdays are $5-$8 and Weekends are $10-$18 depending on space. Head up the street on 7th, past Broadway will be a parking garage on the right that cost around $8, Please do not leave your car in the drive way to get parked, wait to give your keys to the attendant, ( I already seen a car get damaged on the rails, including that she backed up customers waiting for parking) Heading the other way on the corner of 6th ave and Market is $8 parking for the while night $1 per hour ( This parking garage fills up fast! I suggest to get to this parking structure early!) These are the main structures that are around the Gaslamp District.
